It is a place I’ve always dreamed of going to. This shot captured in an opportune moment through the rear of the California Cable Car was particularly special. So many elements just came together: the city skyscapers, the roof of a Temple from China Town, the ambulance and hustle of everyday life, the shiny cable car tracks and a glimpse of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge too.
SFMT official site
“The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) runs three cable car lines. These historic vehicles are not self-powered; rather they move using a mechanism that grips cables that run beneath San Francisco’s streets.”
There are three routes: Powell-Mason, Powell-Hyde and California.
On a short stopover, take the TRAX from the airport to Powell. Buy a day ticket for the MUNI near the turning point for the cable car. This way you can hop on and off over Nop and Russian Hill, visit Fisherman’s Wharf, take the vintage street cars of the F-Line back to Union Square and much more all day. Before heading back to SFO airport back from Powell.
