Wedding Day

I approach her before she’s dressed
And confess my deep and longing love
She takes my hands, looks in my eyes
And tells me she loves me too
But it’s too late
She won’t change her mind
She’ll keep her word
Just not to me

Today is her wedding day
She is going to put on a white dress
And walk down an aisle
To meet a man
That isn’t me

I will sit in the front row
And watch as she says “I do”
Committing to a future
Without me

I am forced to sit in the front row and watch as the love of my life comes walking down the aisle to meet a husband that she’s settling for. I am forced to sit in the front row and watch as the priest asks for objections and I have to bit my lip to keep from screaming at the top of my lungs. I am forced to sit in the front row and watch as they kiss to seal their commitment, tears streaming down my face. Others will mistake them for happy tears because you are one of my closest friends, but we both know these are tears of heart break and sadness.
