Retail Therapy
“Retail Therapy” is a homage to our love / hate relationship with all things shopping. Beginning with the consumer handing out their credit card in the foreground, and ending with a shop-keeper’s open hands in the background. One to collect the card, and the other with a slot in the palm where the money should go.
The contemporary shopping experience has taken over where the Hunter/Gatherer has left off…

Yes…retail therapy has never worked for me…it makes me feel like the woman with the bags. Love the imagery..and yes…see you feature the most important item ‘the piece of plastic”. Great work.

Wonderful painting Karsten. You’ve captured ALL about retail therapy in this beautiful image.
I sometimes feel like the lady with all the bags myself!!

We still stalk, hunt, and gather, but it really has taken on this ugly form. The shoplifter, the hand to nab him, the wild kid, the little old lday, the male beast of burden, the row of dry goods stretcing back to the vanishing point—you have it all here. And in your own unique style, too.
It’l hilarious, that we do this to ourselves… in a sick sort of way! Me for my backwood and the Internet! LOL
