This fortress homes since 1970? the museum of the CAP HORNIERS!
The first french to have used the CAP HORN toward the Pacific was from St Malo: Gouin de Beauchesne, who in who in 1698sailed to establish friendly relations with Peru and Chili.From 1778, the Cap Horn became the route for whale chasing!
In 1850, the discovery of gold in California, put back the Cap Horn into the first place!!The Panama Canal, opening in 1914, was the end of the former route, by the Cap Horn.
And in 1914, when the First World War started, it was definitely the end of its use.
