A Belfast Halloween

A Belfast Halloween

Burning, its burning…its all up in flames
I can hear them exploding, I can see the flashes, they’re all around
I can hear the sirens wailing through the bitter cold
Still they come, still they burn… no one to stop them

The anarchy continues, unabated by the cold
Yet more fires, they’re flames licking higher round the walls
‘More, more’ they scream, they chant, they laugh
The flames lick higher and the anarchy continues

And tomorrow all is gone, ashes, burnt ashes, smouldering in the dew
The anarchy is gone, confined to the walls of the wards, the stations and the houses
‘Maybe it won’t be so bad next year’ say the people in the street
But they’ll be out again, amongst the fire, the flashes, in the anarchy.
