a friend lost

a friend
a joy
a blessing
a gift

with whom
to laugh
to share
our pain

value
incalculable
earthly
riches cannot
compare

when lost
sadness
though
promise of
future
reunion
awaits

yet now,
my heart
breaks

time takes
its time
in passing
on earth

and when
my time
comes
we’ll
talk again
reminisce
of
our days
of
youth
till now

a friend lost by

Today I was gently informed that a dear friend I’ve known since high school died. He was only a year older than me, far too soon. Yet who are we to know when we are called to a better place.

This writing is not a tribute to him exactly but more an expression of my heart.

He was a goofy guy who popped in unannounced so I kept a supply of diet Pepsi and ice cubes at the ready for him—and made sure I was dressed early in the day! I’m happy my last two visits with him were happy ones for me. He used to joke that if he was dieing and he called me, if I didn’t pick up he’d have wasted his final call. He did not call me the day he died.

Thank you for allowing me to share my grief and my memories of him with you, my bubble friends.

I am soooo sorry for your heartache, my friend!
What fabulous memories…..every time you see a diet Pepsi you will smile and probably drip a tear or two, so carry Kleenex with you at all times for awhile! lol:)

My prayers are with you. May you receive comfort and joy at having had him as a good friend.
  • Thank you, Pat, for your compassionate and encouraging words. Yes, I will think of him every time I have a diet Pepsi, you are so right.
