Started as a watercolour, but had to introduce a few other media in the end, to get it to work. I thought I had overworked it and ruined it, but decided to whack it into a frame that happened to fit, so I could enter it in our annual Art society exhibition. My husband thought it wasn’t worthy to enter, but my son thought it was lovely. So I voted for entering it. It won a 3rd prize for mixed media, lol.

Excellent portrait! We are our own worst critic! Loved the description!

  • Thank you, Kim! I’m getting better – not so hyper critical any more, but sometimes it’s hard to be objective. Often I might not like something, but lots of other people do. That’s why I find my webpage galleries so invaluable. I get the feedback and encouragement to show my work.

This is gorgious, how can anyone say it doesn’t look good. I somtimes overwork my aquarelle, and then I’m frustrated and just put it aside. After drying in the night, all of a sudden I know how to finish it.
Where were you born in Germany?

  • Hello Heidi! Sorry it took so long to answer. I now realise that it’s all part of the learning journey. Making mistakes is good. The only failure is not trying because you are afraid to make mistakes. I agree, often it’s good to put a painting away for a while and come back to it . Thanks for taking the time to comment. I was born in Lorrach near the Swiss and French border.
