Little toaster by Karin Zeller

I go to a watercolour class on Wednesday mornings whenever I can. At one particular session, we had a number of antiques to choose from. I fell in love with a lovely antique toaster, and was very happy with the resulting watercolour. I sold it for about $30 to a friend, but afterwards, I wished I had kept it. Silly me. Getting all sentimental about a silly old toaster. LOL!
The story has a happy ending, however. My friend, who had bought it from me, was willing to sell it back to me, even though she liked it herself… So my toaster and I have been reunited, never to be parted again. THE END : )

Arches cold pressed 300 gsm medium watercolour paper.

I have been a professional artist since 1990, starting out doing pencil portrait commissions. These days I have my own back yard studio, where I work towards future exhibitions, and teach weekly classes & workshops in watercolour and acrylics as well as drawing.

Love all your cat paintings but this caught my eye. A simple subject painted beautifully. You definitely used waterclour here at its best.

  • Thank you, Mick! Really appreciate the kind words and feedback. Watercolour is so hard to control, but that’s what I love about it. There is always that element of surprise.

    Excellent details!

  • Thank you , Kim! I had fun with the reflections on the shiny metal surface, They were constantly changing. I was pleased with the salt effects texture in the background. Pretty challenging subject, but didn’t have much time to ponder, as there was a time limit of about 1 hour to complete it.

So do another painting of it silly lady. ;o) This is very lovely. I really like it.

  • Thank you for the kind words. I would probably paint this again if I get the chance. I don’t own it, but I’m sure could arrange to borrow it from the owner.

    Very lovely artwork! ;-)

LOL I can well understand your story. I have a Bamboo digital graphic tablet, and, stylus pen; which I tend went and gave to a friend; hoping that it would encourage him to use his computer a lot more; but, when I last asked him about this; he said, he hardly ever uses the graphic tablet I gave him at all. Only trouble was I felt far too deeply embarrassed to ask back for something I heedlessly gave away! Instead, I’ve decided to save up to go buy one, instead; rather than being forced to always go draw using nothing else but the mouse; which, of course, offers you far less effective control.

  • Thanks for sharing, Paul ! It shows me you are much too generous – to give away something that you, yourself could use. I think your friend should have offered to return it to you. Yes, I know it’s embarrassing to ask for something back. I didn’t have to ask, my good friend offered, but I did feel a bit sheepish and silly. Oh well. I still love my toaster, and will never sell it unless someone makes me an offer I can’t refuse. : )
