Long Forgotten Love

Musky sort of scent from cardboard boxes that once got wet
Mingled with the hint of thyme from Sunday roasts we used to eat
Sunlight filters dappled light through dancing leaves like money growing on the trees
Dusty windows trapped in fibro while outside that shady tree fills my emptiness with happy memories
You and I, we shared our secrets on the branches with the breezes
tapping out our songs with little twigs for drumming, passions on our sleeves
Succumbing to the sun with warmth our journey just begun
I shed a tear now I remember, how your thick blonde hair was ever always in your eyes
I hear our laughter echo through the walls, the distance between us after all
reminds me how your sweet face would fill my mind with our next date
to pick the strawberries in the field, and how our dinner would be late
Milk moustaches were our favourite form of entertainment
Wishing on the stars came closely second
Cloud animals followed by the trampoline that bounced us to the moon
And they said, that you’d be home soon…..
