little wren

The tiny wren he panicked, his wing a broken mess
The catapult had spoken, to my little feathered friend
He fell onto the ground, no cry emitted from his face
He filled a tiny tiny solemn peaceful little space

Oh hold me dear, don’t pass me by”, his silence was his cry
She answers to his final call from vast cerulean skies

“Oh eloquence and loveliness
Where have you gone my love?
I hear the daunting sounds of nothing
And I plead for you to come”

“I am alone” she cried, intermingled with the gull
Her sing-song drowned beneath his hollow cry
And resting underneath her breast, her blue beloved boy
Had sighed his last, his one last breath and quietly he died

His little spirit soared above and felt a newfound ease
All his troubles bled away, now cold, his body seized
Alone, although his chirping friends surround his tiny frame
Bereft his love, she mourns him still and never was the same

And mother if you knew and father if you dared
We’d dance across the sky to one more silver moonlit dance
And father if you’re there and mother if you care
Find me, lose me, love me, bless me, hold my tiny hand

I’m losing ground as I travel through the sky
I’m meeting all our ancestors, I’m flying fast and high
Know me now, no, know me not, for we were born for this
We soar above the trees beyond in a heaven sweetened trance

When the sun sets burning, glowing in that tangerine old sky
Our lips will part to sing ourselves a haunting lullaby
I will always hear your song, and love you will hear mine
And we will be entwined again, until the end of time

couldn’t sleep, listening to the haunting tones of The Civil Wars singing Leonard Cohen’s, “Dance me to the end of Love”….I wrote this…I hope you like it…x

I should just elaborate a little on where this is coming from, a few things…I saw a tragic image of two dead babes from a war-torn country yesterday….it haunts me. I saw them in a Facebook news feed. Of course, I’m only human, and so I wished I hadn’t seen the image, but it was impossible to look away and not to dwell and ponder the tragic state of the world, the orphans and the widows…..the lovers who’ve lost one another in tragic cirumstances, or myself having lost 2 babies due to miscarriages, the sadness that comes from dwelling on such things, permeates these words…and it is not just about the little wren who dies, but a way for me, of processing things. I hope you understand. It’s how I imagine the hearts might cry out, and long for mother’s comfort, or dad’s strong hand, or our dearest love at a time when one is passing from this world that we know to the next that we don’t or aren’t as familiar with. These are just my own thoughts and ideas, I don’t expect anyone else to agree or disagree….it is just me processing things, my own way.

I’ve heard a story of a bird that lay dead on the ground and her mate came flying down and remained there crying… It’s so sad and so moving ~ I’ve even seen the pictures; they were blue birds.

  • aw, that’s so sad Mui-Ling, thanks for your response, much appreciated. x
