love is not dependant on the 'whether'

love is not dependant on the ‘whether’
‘whether’ you’re getting this or that
or ‘whether’ things are going your way

if love’s depending on the ‘whether’
then that aint love and you remember
what love isn’t, so you find out what it is

love is not dependant on the ‘giver’
‘giving’ this or giving that
or ‘giving’ your whole self away

if you’re depending on the ‘giver’
than that aint love, cos love’s much bigger
it takes two to give and take or else it’s broken

love is ne-ver end-ing ri-vers
of-the souls of-all the gi-vers
sharing hearts and minds and wishes
making promises they’re keeping
being gentle honest speaking
love is bet-ter than the ‘whether’
it is bigger than the ‘giver’
it is wider than the ‘river’
and it’s further than you see

love’s the goal of every heart
it’s foundations from the start
demand a purity of vision
everlasting long decision

by the waters, you will see them
holding hands in conversation
watch their eyes how they are kindly
and their arms still cradle gently
cos love is not dependant on the ‘whether’
no, not ever, no….love is not dependant
on the whims and woes and want to’s
it’s a thing between two people that
is earmarked with potential
long as two will always listen, care
and learn the way from there.

love is not dependant on the 'whether' by

re the tempo….this should be read fairly quickly with the emphasis on each syllable and running words and lines together, don’t take too many breaths :) ….it was written like a river flowing :)

a very wise, insightful and sensitive write Karin, beautifully written, expressing the enormity and complexity of what love is and why indeed, it is to be cherished if found. :-) xoxoxo

  • aw, thank you so much Lisa, the idea that love is not dependant upon the weather or the ‘whether’ just occurred to me in the shower and I felt a poem coming, lol…had to hurry out and get it all out, I’m so glad you liked it xox

HUH……….i just had to add, that when i did write a spot of poetry, the words and ideas would, for some reason, always invariably occur, filling my head, whilst in the shower and just as you described, i would have to rush out and jot them down before they escaped…..i had to tell….as i read your reply, it made me laugh. I do love the whole concept of love not depending on the ‘whether’ or the ‘weather’ also. Very meaningful prose Karin. xxx

  • lol…I’m so glad you came back to reveal this to me, I feel less alone!!! big hugs…..and it’s so cool, there is probably a whole section of artists who have this experience, I think it might be because the shower is so relaxing, and we forget our own thoughts for a while, so others filter in! I don’t know, but it’s great when it happens eh…xoxo

Maybe this wonderful insight and wisdom comes from your fascination with owls, Karin!!! Love certainly is far more complex and rewarding than society would have us believe…and worth every minute of the journey. Thank you for sharing, gorgeous girl! You are a blessing xx

When I first read the title I was expecting a comparison or a play of the words ‘weather’ and ‘whether’ – and I see in a reply you did in fact think of the weather :) Really loved the way this all flowed. And speaking of not dependent on the ‘whether,’ I have came to realize more and more in recent year that having better qualities doesn’t really bring someone more love – love is something that occurs naturally, and when it happens it happens… hard to explain ~ If it was always the case that the one with better qualities were the ones loved; only few would ever find love ~

Much agree…easier to light than keeping bright
(creativity likes to find us in the shower…love is more compassionate ;))
