awake now my soul

I cry like the gull, in it’s haunting archaic language
from the depths of my soul, like the ocean in mourning
the blue swell carries me out, where deep meets deep
nowhere to hide or rest there my feet in the sweep of the tide
and the roll of the night and the song of the moon on my brow
I lower my eyes to the silvery sighs of the fish and their glittery scales
the turmoil and such from the previous eve, slowed down to an ebony beat
Swept off my feet and thrown on the heap, where others had too
been discarded, on a boat with no float, in a rip where it flipped and the oars
crashed to bits all around us. Nothing was heard, not a blip, not a word
abandoned to water’s dark merger, we slipped and we sank and we groaned,
that’s just how it is when the darkness is is and it challenges all of our thinking
all we have learned and discerned and determined is left in the midst of abandon
til there is a flash of a lightning crash and we understand all the commotion
from comatose days and a life spent in haze we surrender the lull of the ocean
not caught in the tide, nor to densely abide, where the sea meets the soul
at creation, the dip in the sand and the call back to land become now our
freshest devotion. Awake now my soul, from your sleep where it stole
your awareness and all of the knowing. – Karin
