Receiver of Light

I’ve also made an audio recording by Karin Taylor accompanied by son Ben Taylor on piano

Bound by Ropes Lashed To Her Legs
She gropes her way forward
to sip from The River of Disenchantment
where Dreams have Drowned
in their own juice
fermented long and beyond replication now
the Day is Done
she longs for the Pure Harmony
of the existence of bees and birds in nature
for tho bound, she might watch them
in lucid moments which transition
always into other nightmares
and never Dreams but is always Despairing.

Then a small Sunspot rests upon her shoulder
barely there, it weighs nothing, yet is a tiny
amount of warmth, she in seeing it,
slightly squints as if to really take it in.

What are you saying little Sunspot?
For although I am Bound Deep in Chains
my ears are Open and Listening
I have nought else to do but gaze upon
your softly spoken form
and ponder Life Without Me In It

And the Sunspot seeming to Pause and Sigh
took a Deep Breath, expanding and shrinking slightly
engaging it’s new friend in a conversation
it suggested (subliminally) that the girl
untie The Binding About Her Legs
for she was A Prisoner of Nought But Herself

Shrouded in disbelief, she began to protest
no no, it was They, They who put me in chains
.it was They who beat me up
it was They, They, They!

But the little Sunspot was in No Mood
He Up and Left
The girl remained there, thinking deeply and a tear
trickled and dropped, then another trickled and plopped
setting the tone, wetting the dirt, lubricating the earth
and she saw it.

The New Shoot. It was growing from a rock. She thought.
If this shoot can do the impossible, escape the boundaries
that Rock has put in it’s way….then surely I, who am Bound
By Things That Others Have Put In My Way
, can also struggle through
escape and breathe the fresh air and be New Again. Surely the Life
That Is In Me
, is stronger than this little plant, so Tender and New.

And with that thought, she struggled to her feet……..
and with every movement and struggle and strain, her muscles
renewed their strength. She looked to the Sun and realised that
Sunspot was merely a messenger and that she
was The Receiver of Light.

I sometimes think there is nothing new in revelation, these are old ideas, set to new music. When we encounter nature, it can prepare us to receive old/new information afresh, sometimes and more commonly, things we already know to be truth….it helps our minds and hearts to become more open and ready to work through obstacles….it gives us wings to fly…..despite our chains, the limitations we sometimes put upon ourselves….are we receivers of light, this is all about revelation, all about opening up and listening, finding hope and the way forward, which I of course, struggle with as much as the next person…hugs to all x

Beautiful words Karin. Although it is sad to be bound in any way, sometimes that lack of freedom – the lack of the ability to wander off somewhere, is the time that is easiest to let the imagination run. In fact, perhaps some of those people in society who have been found ‘mad’ and put in the nut house may be daydreaming as they sit in a blank white room all day… just looking forward to and dreaming of the day they’ll see daylight again… and when there is less in a space, we’ll pay more attention to what’s in it, even if it is as little as a sun spot. And I love the comparison to the little plant that overcame the rock; we can learn so much from nature! But all in all this piece conveys the strong message that we are the ones who imprison ourselves. Very lovely Karin.

  • thank you so much Mui-Ling for such an insightful and thoughtful response….I love hearing people’s stories of overcoming, as it is so inspirational. :) xx
