Ode to Whales

Your eyes so wise with years
I am moved by the scope of your largesse
we have plundered your ocean home
taken to your flesh with our knives
become heartless to your plight
swept your blubber to one side discarded
forgotten your voice and the signs
laid to rest the shame of our crimes
coloured the waters red with your blood
forgotten our brotherhood and your substantial love
Adored the money god and given in to cosmetic pressure
We’ve taken much and abused our affinity with nature
And as you sing under the stars tonight
Your wonderful songs in the moon’s white light
As you lullaby your youngsters and croon sweet ocean melodies
May the earth resound with your vibrancy and respond with urgency
Away with the sickness of money and despondency
To prevent any further decay of humanity
And those who slaughter and kill you our daughters
May the great hand that watches over all of our waters
Create a wide birth between you and they
So no more shall they see you, no more will they say
They are research providers depending on pay
Whales bury yourselves in the deep ocean places
and breathe not the air of their turbulent waters
Hear all our voices that love you this day
and feel our vibrations and gentle hearts say
We love and we honour, delight in your ocean
Be free as the sea all it’s currents and swells
and fly in your dreams far away from this hell.
