the canvas bride

I am looking thru the window at a figure and a shadow
at shapes moving a foot or two in front of a flaming hearth
I notice there an easel and a canvas dressed in white
the bride awaiting her betrothed

What ink marks will he spatter upon her new white dress

What shapes will form thereafter to exasperate or impress
I was glad to be observer, not the one all clothed in white
for despite my loss of merriment, eyes jaded from the fight
I felt a sense of wonderment and fascination new
at the bonding of the artist with his bridal canvas beau
