I preferred to dance

matchsticks sometimes burn our little fingers
but mine were all black anyway
arranged this way and that
in careful repetition
under the glass glued down
I wore my georgie girl jumper
a remedy for everything in Fair Isle
aqua blue it spoke to me of the
white of winter and the warmth of fires I never knew
but I thought I knew you, far far away
I heard your distant singing and danced in my head
to all the words you sang and in my mind I was
A Seeker too
And I danced the little matchgirl in the ballet as a mime
and I wore her worn expression superimposed over mine
and I tried to understand the world around me going fast
but I was never quick enough, cos I preferred to dance

Artist's Description

snippets of memories from my childhood, reminding of who I once was and how that person infected the person I am today, with whimsy and daring to be a dreamer even now….I always was, always will be….dreamer
