funny freckles and frizzy hair

funny freckles and frizzy hair
passengers admiring stares
a pretty little turned up nose
pink paint on fingertips and toes
morning air so cold and fresh
sprinkled dewdrops on her vest
where she goes, nobody knows
painted with perfume of marshmallow
every boy wants to be her shadow
she knits in quiet solitude
unaware of the strangers moods
a giveaway, an easy smile
is missed and lost
over the miles
and all the while
she casts on stitches
dreams of days to come
on beaches
wishes long and daydreams hard
amidst a most admiring crowd
a whistle blows
crowds shuffle past
she knits and stills herself in tasks
a newspaper she pulls out next
notice how they strain their necks
to see, to know more, all about her
and what she reads, and if it matters
she drops a coin then
from her purse
and Mr Someone takes his chance
Looks into her pretty eyes
and hand the coin back
for a smile

I found this great creative writing prompt# resource and tried it out this morning. I chose number 70 for inspiration:

“Pick a character in a day time soap and put him or her in a stranded commuter train. Write about what he or she is feeling or thinking at that moment.”

I took a little liberty with it, in that the girl isn’t really stranded and don’t give too much away about what she is thinking….but still, this was a fun exercise with lots of room to move. I hope you enjoy it :)

Oh very delightful Karin; it is so cute – children would enjoy this too, and it flowed with a lovely rhyme.

  • aw, thanks so much Mui-Ling, I think it took all of 5 mins, as I’m feeling inspired by anything and everything right now, even though I’m quite tired :) This was an extremely fun exercise to try and do. As it wasn’t my own idea, but someone else’s on the website…but it really is great to stretch and try something different now and then to see what is possible :) xx
