she knows the way

frozen to the core
she awoke from her black dream
her fingers snapping from the freeze
nails blackened by the chill of the breeze
eyes darkened from tears so violent
the water in the stream was black and shone
like the darkness lit by the fuller moon
the fish were the rivers’ little stars
lighting the way for the little warrior
her lips purpled and blue
she lay down in sweet submission
to the sky and said goodbye to her
inherent possessions
deliberating over
the songs of despair offered up by
the diligent cicadas of the night
their wisdom rising up from the cracks
in the coldened earth and never revealing
themselves they remain cloaked in the dark
and the sky opened and revealed it’s heart
by day the significance was lost
but the owls of the night came forth
and she saw in their eyes the answers to it all
the mazes we weave and the turns we take
all lost lost lost to the true significance
of our lives, and although our lives are little enough
perhaps it would be apt to say they are less
meaningless than one thinks and each chance
is the opportunity to reassemble the task and
put it to the test
She rises beneath all the moon’s beauty
illuminated and cold waiting for the sun’s first
warm breath to add life to her colourlessness
and as the dawn breaks over
wild golden tipped skies and clouds spilling over
her face is touched and the glow remains
throughout her days
she knows the way

she knows the way
