the contradiction

I am a contradiction
today so brave and fearless
tomorrow shy and grave
I flutter by the window
with my purple dress displayed
I dance and pirouhette for you
until my wings give way
the west wind took me by surprise
and swept my breath away
I looked up to the sun
and flew direct a mile
it held me in it’s yellow trance
I felt his warming smile
Ventured yet another
sweat formed on my brow
Closing in was agony
Too close brings on the hour
and weeping at your feet
I gave my last slow breath
the loan of life was all I had
a whispy rasp, then death
Never mind I said
they’ll love me when I’m dead
remember all the good I did
and wrap me in their heads
forget about the faux pas
the messy bits I stuffed
the hardened heart I wore about
ungrateful on my part
remember me as once I was
kind thought not yet departed
in the glory of my youth
as faithful and kindhearted

the contradiction
