when whales wave

when whales wave
the sky sighs

iphone photo taken at the time the whales were passing by the Point… taken 8/8/10

today we were so privileged to witness 2 adult whales passing by on their way home with their new baby……does life get better than this….

we swear they were waving to us….flapping their huge fins in succession and their beautiful tails….it was mesmerisingly beautiful and like a gift of gold on a day that was all sunshine
..
so many people had just pulled over on the highway…to stop whatever they had planned and come to see them….you could actually see them really clearly from in the car driving over the headland, they were that close….if only i’d had my new camera with the zoom….all i had was my piddly iphone and you can barely see the shots.

How fortunate you were to witness such a beautiful event. I can hardly begin to imagine how mesmerising it must have been for you and the other passer-by’s who got to see the whales too.

  • thank you so much Kylie…yes…it is really something….i mean you can pay lots of money for an opportunity like that….or sometimes life is just good to you, and great things happen…i couldn’t believe so many people stopped their lives for half an hour or so….as they were in transit to another time and place…..to sit and rest and receive….it was so special : )x

Ah this is so beautiful… Yes, those magnificent tails that they allow us to see.. “to beat the surface and create a wave”… Thanks for sharing – this is very beautiful.

aww. you are so fortunate to have such magical creatures so nearby…and i love the ‘whales were here’ image. cute and if scaled up in a global sense,a little sort of ironic. the poem is lovely too! ck’s lk
