Lizard Swimming

A rather rare sight for me, to see a lizard swimming, probably an Eastern Water Dragon. The poem is an expression of seeing this happen at the Lake yesterday. I am 48 and have never seen anything like it before. The world is still full of wonder for me to explore. It never grows boring or dull.

I searched and searched
I went a hunting
looking for some buggles
I searched the trees
both high and low
saw nothing, not a beetle
I even looked for spiders
which give me little shivers
all I saw were webs and leaves
and little birds and lizards
then I heard a whopping splash
and wondered what on earth!
I saw a lizard swimming
and I was full of mirth
the sky seemed like it smiled
the water seemed so friendly
the lizard took a bath and spa
to cool his little body
I stood there in some wonder
and pondered should I save it
Could it swim or was it just
a terrible disaster
I thought I might dive in
and save it then from drowning
that’s when the penny dropped
the water he was savouring
he clung tight to some branches
and swam from here to there
the lizard clearly loves to swim
a sight so rich and rare
