Patchwork and Gizzards

It’s hard not to be a little bit influenced by Halloween with all the photos up around FB lately. I don’t celebrate Halloween at all, as it’s not something we really do heree in Australia that much, but this poem was a bit inspired by it all the same :)

Patchwork and gizzards
Cauldrons and blizzards
Who was it
Betwitched the beguiler

We haven’t a clue
Don’t know, who is who
We don’t want to
It’s clear as the skies are

Are you witches or wizards
Which one of you is it?
I know you hoard
tails of frilled lizards

Vilest is weakest
and hatred rots deepest
in hearts where the forest
makes matter

I doubtest you knowest
the place in the forest
that matters
where hearts are made meekest

Now sleep if you will
Dream that all will be well
on the morrow
the moors will have secrets

A nightmare enchants
by the seat of your pants
and the dead night
conflicts mindful seekers

And sneer as you may
while you sneeze in the hay
for I have not
demanded your keys yet

But wait when I do
there’ll be none left of you
and you’ll snuff yourself out
on some kharma

A charmed life they say
but they know less than Fae
and I reckon
I know more n you do

Let’s wager a bet
I’ll win game, match and set
and the score
will be forty to zero
