essence | karin taylor

As I wrap my eyes around mankind, the souls of the living and the departed, there is something I see that is imparted, an essence.

Each one has it, the base of the perfume is already there, omnipresent, however there are new notes applied to that base each time a new baby is born and each one of us becomes a different fragrance, a new sonata, we have high and low notes.

And there are all the other notes in between, some are melancholy c-sharp minors, colourless as crystal, while others remind one of dark purple moments of dangerous highs, like cruel cold amythests, there are crescendos of various other highs and the majors and fortissimo’s always prominent, the impression of their presence is not always as welcome as the one who is less loud, more gentle, softer or pianissimo.

Your essence is the splendour of your being, dab it on each morning, and may the wearer bless all who are fragranced with your delightful presence.

Wonderful writing and metaphor, Karin, so poetic and beautiful. I believe that that base note is the breath of God – “God has placed eternity in the hearts of men …”

  • Thank you so much Micklyn, that’s a beautiful way of looking at it! :) …I have always loved that quote and wondered what it meant…it’s such an ethereal statement :) x

Lately, looking at and reading your work Peace comes often in my mind. This world, filled with all kind of agression is soooo far away when I adapt your art.I am already a steph granny, but for sure when I needed to decorate a chil’s bedroom I went after your art. For 2014 I will check out your calendars for my brand new bathroom. How much pleasure that will give!!!

  • That’s wonderful Thea, peace is foremost on my mind also always…… and it’s so special to me, that you looked for my work to decorate a child’s bedroom, because if there is anything that my heart is set on, it is bringing joy to the little faces of our children and helping them expand on their imagination in some way, because I remember as a child, loving my books and almost diving into the illustrations to become a part of the journey of the characters. I am so blessed to have people like you in my life, who I feel, can truly see where I am coming from. I love your art also. xox

I do believe in it; that each person has one, and it changes and grow as we grow and meet or have new people in our lives, and we put ourselves in different places. Lovely write Karin.

  • That’s wonderful Mui-Ling, diversity blesses and enriches our world, but some are too closed-minded to realise that to have a wonderfully ever-expanding world that sees outside the box, we need all kinds of fragrance and sonatas….and too, so true, as you put it, we change as we grow and and are enriched by the people we meet and the places we go. Thank you so much xx

This is really an uplifting read Karin. Nicely done and gotta say I can so appreciate the essence of people. Unseen beauty is to me the purest. Wonderful and guessing beautifully inspired:) x

  • Thank you so much for reading my work Donna, I’m so happy you found it to be be uplifting, and glad too that you sense and appreciate the special essence in everyone, I like what you said, that ‘unseen beauty is the purest to you’….. I dont’ know where the inspiration for this came from, sometimes, I read other poets’ work or writers, and it’s like a ‘fire-starter’ and I feel inspired and ‘ready’ to put something down on paper….actually, I don’t write on paper at all, it comes directly from my mind through keyboard, there is not much conscious thought going into it, just a flow of intuitive impressions. :)

beautiful …i can’t help it, it is the word that commands my first response ….so sweet and beautifully written, your ability with the english language and its abilities to convey emotion on prose and verse is amazing in its development as it grows deeper and broader with every line

  • Loui, thank you so very much! Thank you for reading my work and giving me such lovely glowing feedback, it means a lot to me, it really does, for I am not terribly articulate when I speak, I do rely more heavily on the written to help me find self expression. It’s very important to me, that it has some positive aspects and impact upon not only myself, but those reading it! :) So as you can imagine, it goes without saying, that I so appreciate your wonderful response. :)
