I shall quietly abide by © Karin Taylor

Something a little different this time, this is an uplifting or positive poem I wrote just a couple of days ago, which is sort of like a mantra for me. Thought it would be nice to have it framed, as it’s something that I hope to learn to recite off by heart to myself during stressful times. I hope you like it. There is the soft shape of a deer and a butterfly in the background. It goes like this:

I shall quietly abide on a calm sea
And when the waters violently strike and gash the boat
I shall simply calm myself and thee

I shall sit atop a lone hill gazing down on the soft grass
And when the wind forms into gusts that whip my skin
I shall simply shift my thoughts to meditate on gratitudinal things

I shall go slowly where I walk
And when the crowds rush to beat me
I will console myself that I continue in the moment

I shall walk in bare feet to connect with the earth
And when the burs and sharp rocks tear my feet
I will remember the suffering of those before me

I will sing a song to heaven
And when the world is overwhelmed by chaos and pain
I choose good intention and prayerful gestures

I will show the world my smile
And when fear grips my every bone and shatters my dreams
I will look kindly and love regardless

I do see the butterfly and the deer; as I said before, an artist can pay just as much attention to detail in the world around them through their bodies, just as they pay attention to detail in art through their eyes. Just beautiful Karin; yes you are right, writing can be nice to have framed – this is sort of like what I did with my book. Lovely work as always.

  • Thanks so much Mui-Ling, I’m glad you like it :) x

I was sorta thinking of getting some of these, as it would be nice to keep in a wallet or bag, as a postcard and also something to give to a friend, if they’re feeling a bit rough, here’s the postcard view
