I have wanted to create a patchwork kimono for such a long time, originally I titled this ‘geisha and the peacock’ but changed it since. This little painting took around 5 hours from start to finish, I worked straight without a break, on the iPad using the drawing app Procreate. I hope you like her! Here is a little video of my progress from beginning to end.

On the journal you posted yesterday I did say I would say more once you post the actual work itself. In the video I did enjoy the part where you were adding the colours to her kimono; part of the reason I mentioned already – and I love how in the final result there looks to be some trees growing within that patchwork of colours – as though the colours and life forms of spring are being preserved in her clothes during the winter, which will come out when they are ready for spring!

You know it’s funny, as I saw this in the activity monitor, I remembered I had wanted to say more but I forgot what I wanted to say, but as I looked closely again and saw the trees in the kimono again it clicked to me :o)

  • thanks very much Mui-Ling, that is such a lovely idea, and I see what you mean, I put an overlay on the top of her kimono, that does give the ‘tree’ impression you see there, sort of like creases. So happy you remembered what you were going to say :)
