I’m not sure at all what this is, it could be a gazania from a similar family to daisies, I got some great shots of these pretty things….the bushy clump was quite unattractive, until you looked deeper and harder, and saw these magical blossoms, unfolding and dying….in the cycle of life. It was hard not to be impressed by their beauty, hidden just beneath the cloak of a rather unattractive first appearance…….a life lesson for me.

Update: I now think these might be african daisies (osteospermum ecklonis)

This is beautiful. The light is enchanting. Got a little story to go with it? It’s begging for one.

  • May…. thank you…. here is the story:

One day, it was close to the first day of Spring I remember, Francesca was playing in and out of the shadows, she thought the shadows must be water nymphs and was pretending the grass under her feet was water, beneath the water was stored the earth’s stash of sapphires and emeralds and the fairies were it’s protectors. There was also a wealth of gold and silver stored there, from the fairies’ fires at night, which they rolled into gold from the flaming fire, and silver from the charred ash, leaving no trace of “fairy presences” for humans to find.

Francesca was a fair child of sweet demure nature and an innocent light within that begged you to love her, as you were guided to her eyes by the fronds of blonde hair framing her tiny face, you realised there was something special and other-worldly about her, perhaps this is why Francesca had what is known as ‘fairy sight’. If you looked hard enough into Francesca’s eyes of violet blue, you could see stories.

On this special day near the beginning of Spring, while Francesca chased the shadows, a tiny pink flower caught in her little toe and she bent down to breathe in it’s fresh wholesome scent, as she did, she noticed something move, two tiny feet drew themselves up from the bell-like edge of the petals, deep into the flower…of course, at first Francesca thought she was seeing things, as she did have a wild imagination and sometimes reality and her imagined world would intermingle, so that she wasn’t quite sure which was which. But then a tiny pink slipper fell to the ground and bounced twice on the blade of grass, where a tiny dew drop, disturbed, splashed onto Francesca’s nose.

Francesca, gently passed the tiny slipper up through the flower’s bell and felt a little pull…the shoe was gone and she realised that fairies indeed were very real. Of course, she thought, of course they are!

Beautiful story – mine went a little differently. A young girl, walking in a meadow before dawn on her wedding day, saw these flowers. Because her father was king of this beautiful land, she could have any flower she wanted for her wedding bouquet, but when she saw these, they were so beautiful, her tears came and dripped down and mixed with dew. There were fairies inside about to wake up. Not a stranger to fairies, she told them they could attend the wedding in these magnificent flowers which she picked with care… and of course, she was the most beautiful bride, beloved by fairies and her prince, and they lived happily ever after and visited with the fairies in the meadow, often.

  • Ooooh, I love your story May, it’s wonderful and so uplifting, thank you so much for sharing it with me, you have made my day! xx

Very nice Karin; love the way you softened and desaturated the surrounding in order to bring out the beauty of the petals. Now from here it doesn’t look like it was part of an unattractive bushy clump.

  • thanks so much Mui-Ling, so glad you like it ;)
