Fly High Butterfly

_fly high little butterfly
fly wide and far away
fly high little butterfly
to light up someone’s day
fly higher than blue mountaines
fly further than we see
fly wider than the vast expanse
of earth and sky and sea
fly to where the air will softly
guide you on your way
fly to where our ancestors
were buried in the ground
touch your wings upon the nose
of every little child
let them know how beautiful
is everything that’s wild_
Here is a video to show you my process, I’ve sped it up so it won’t take up too much of your time, (0.41 secs)just a nice little quick one…I hope you enjoy seeing how it came together:
Some people like to know the length of time it takes, this one took about 4.5 hours, with some additional time to create the video. That doesn’t include the couple of hours it took to draw it in pencil. So all up, it would have taken around 7 hours in total :)
I created this using Procreate on the iPad, the painting part takes about 4.5 hours…after I had drawn it with pencil in my Sketch pad, I photographed it and painted in with a stylus (digital pen/paintbrush) ..I was a bit stuck on a name, so my excellent photographer friend Steven Powell came up with this, it seemed just right :) Thank you very much Steven! :)

It’s a joy and privilege to create little offerings to share, a taste of nostalgia, a little warmth for the heart in a moment of reflection. I enjoy illustrating for children and the inner child.

Oh this is so adorable. In fact it takes me to when I was a little girl, I used to have a bed cover with Holly Hobbie on it, always used to make me feel happy and safe, this reminds me of that. Talented lady you are! :)

Karin, I absolutely love the way you mixed media in this… the realness of the clouds and sky make me feel as though the characters have come to life!
