This was the early night sky the other day, on my way home, over the rise just before you turn into our street, sits a large jacaranda on the left, which protudes and from this view, it sits right in front of the sky, creating a wonderful silhouette…in the distance all the mountains are visible, but lower down, there you can see mists and fires and it is quite a wonderful outlook for enjoying sunsets less than a minute’s walk from my home which is great news for me, when I am without transport sometimes. I really like the oriental sense I feel coming through here, so I changed the colours from those golden hues to more of a red and added to the scene by increasing the length of the block of dark colour down the bottom to intensify the vision. I also gave the silhouette a shadow behind to fake a tree shadow with second mountain in the distance :)

Wow looks like it was quite a sight! Love how limited the colours are while the shapes are so distinct. It is sort like my my Sunset with Blue Trees in that sense – this sort of looks like an oriental painting too.

  • Thanks so much Mui-Ling, I remember your “Sunset with Blue Trees” well, it’s so lovely. Yes, it was rather spectacular but also quite ordinary as far as just that orange glow (I do love a beautiful sunset with the orange glow of course) but I wanted a different outcome. At one point it was lime, and that did look nice too against the black, but I didn’t feel ‘endeared’ to it….adjusted to red, it felt so right and I felt ‘closer’ to it if you know what I mean? xx

I must visit Australia someday. This is beautiful.

  • I’m so glad you like it, thank you so much Lori!! It was just your ordinary (but beautiful) orange glow type of sunset, so I have adjusted it, but it intrigued me how a jacaranda tree could stand in as something that could look a bit oriental. I don’t know if they exist in other parts of the world…but they are beautiful..they flower purple, and every year there is a big festival in Grafton (south of here) called the Jacaranda Festival and all the streets are lined with these trees …it is quite spectacular. Another similar tree, that I often get mixed up with the jacaranda tree, is the poinsiana tree, they have a similar look but the flowers are red on the poinsiana :) x
