I created this painting using acrylic, ink, pencil and chalk pastel on Arches Aquarelle (original sold)
This is a piece commissioned by a lovely family in the United States who contacted me a couple of months ago, to prepare something special for their anniversary. I explained to them that I rarely do commissioned work and usually turn it down (much to my own disappointment also) and in fact, I did turn them down originally, as I tend to work purely from my own inspiration and imagination and feel constrained if working from photographs. It’s also very difficult I’ve found, to get into the mind of someone else, to produce something they would be truly happy with, so I had lots of self doubt creeping in. The reason I did end up doing this commission, was mainly because they so encouraged me and perservered in asking me, that in the end I thought maybe I could do it, and also that they didn’t require me to do any kind of photo likeness at all. They just wanted me to give it a try, but if I wasn’t happy about where the painting was going, it was ok if I wanted to pull out…so they gave me free reign to just allow whatever I felt to come through, as long as I was inspired and that the painting in some way represented mum and daughter. They shared with me at one stage that mum and daughter really enjoyed working outside in the garden together, so that was my theme. The family just wrote to me to let me know they were very happy with it thankfully. So here it is, I hope you like it. Happy Anniversary to my special family!
