…I’m wishing you peace always ….

this portrait called for many elements, drawing of the face with a mechanical pencil, painting of the hair with acrylics, which I cut out of cardboard and glued on…the origami dove is a drawing, coloured and cut out in photoshop, other elements are actual photographs (the moth and the dragonfly) I found these dead insects, and wanted them in this piece….as per my love of how Brett Whitely has sometimes incorporated real ‘found’ things such as nests, birds eggs and cats heads, not nearly so macabre….however, i wanted them in this image …they represent ‘life and death’ in nature’s cycle .. the work is highly symbolic. It required many hours of hard work spent in PS, the peace sign is taken from a photograph of my own hand, and I’ve added a stroke, removing all trace of my hand within, she is ‘tattooed’ with peace, because some people are born with peace and some are born into war. Her eyes symbolize the clearness of eyes untroubled by conscience and serve as a reminder of the crystal clear pools of blue which join together to form the vast pool of creative consciousness, the inspiration we all drink from daily….. the wings she dons, are from my 1965 newspaper, the year in which i was born, on 10 May 1965…they signify…..flying on the wings of an eagle, freedom for which I long….freedom from fear and longing to soar. I hope you know peace that is flowing like a river…

The following piece was composed by me, quite some time ago, long prior to a very disturbing
conflict. At the time I penned it, I had no idea of what was to come, but was projecting a message of hope and peace prior to the uproar and division the conflict caused. Such conflict took a huge toll on me. This is the strange and surreal writing that came to me after the painting was complete. It was perplexing to me, until the conflict became real and threatened Unity and peace not only in my community but in my heart. Where it states, ‘they were wrong’ it means that those who attacked the character of others to further their cause, were wrong. But. I would try to forgive. I believe that strong and healthy debate is excellent and often necessary, however the discrediting of another parties character in an effort to promote ones cause, has to be questioned. The reference to ‘letter P’ refers to ‘peace’

Carem’s Blue Ocean

looked up, in the sky I saw
origami dove alight upon the war
letter ‘P’ tried to speak but tripped
upon his lip and wild robins
twittered sweet nothings
to clear the air
of sobbing

they were wrong, they sang their song
but they were wrong
they were wrong, they sang their song
but they were wrong

I spent the day in reverse it felt
better to see it all backwards and
less perverse
I put my hand inside my purse there
was a silver coin on a silver coin
just one by one
but the day was done, all done

but they were wrong, still sang their song
but they were wrong
they were wrong, still sang their song
of wrong

felt a faint it was coming on, strong
fell to the ground and there sounded
a gong, it was night, not long not long
the dove flew over the west side of the nest
she covered it with whispers of ships
that fluttered by on cloudy bits

the egg broke when night awoke
asoak in brûlée heaven
everything was rare and melised
in Carem’s blue ocean
we flew the skies and melded eyes together
beyond the door that says
no entry further than the
bland old sign for empty
we found day and light and
good and sent the word out
understood yet not
underwent foretold
letters bent beyond
the grave of all regrets

sorrow no more
but shelter your life
from the storm
where the heart
of the teacup
reveals
all
