There is a new song out!

A friend on RB uncleblack has put my new poem to music and turned it into a truly beautiful song called Paper Boats on myspace

listen to our new song by the katie winter to me it reminds me a little bit of Puff the Magic Dragon….it’s really delightful, i hope you enjoy it as much as me

…………………………………………………………………………

Image I took of the first paper boat I made yesterday, I’m all ready to catch some tears now

This was originally inspired by an image by Niharika Singh called Distant Memories 2
. . . . .
I originally wrote a poem Paper Boat Tears which in turn inspired my painting

paper boat tears by karin
Tomorrow when I wake
I am starting something new
I will make some paper boats
and ready them for you
..
I want my tears to be
with the fishes in the sea
with the whales and leviathans
and the dolphins who are free
..
I am building paper boats
like little funeral pyres
to contain from here my tears
and send them out for miles
..
Once the boats are soakeded
with my tears all splashed upon them
I’ll stand at waters edge
and send them out onto the ocean
..
then part of me has melded
with the deep blue open places
and the peace that comes from letting go
will heal me down the ages
..
Next I’ll dream the whale
has met me in the sea
that he understands my sorrows
and sing songs to comfort me
..
so tears now do flow freely
upon my paper boats
and help me send my sorrows
on the origami floats
..
And where the whale is leaping
deep blue waters are my tears
and when the dolphins gather
I have shared with them my cares
. . . . .
I have thought this morning what piece of music would best accompany this piece, and I felt True Colours by an older Cyndi Lauper would be the right companion piece, because it is a song that is sung in response to the girl’s tears. I found it to be just the right response…full of hope and understanding and somewhat maternal.

True Colours

You with the sad eyes
don’t be discouraged
oh I realize
it’s hard to take courage
in a world full of people
you can lose sight of it all
and the darkness inside you
can make you fell so small

But I see your true colors
shining through
I see your true colors
and that’s why I love you
so don’t be afraid to let them show
your true colors
true colors are beautiful
like a rainbow

Show me a smile then
don’t be unhappy, can’t remember
when I last saw you laughing
if this world makes you crazy
and you’ve taken all you can bear
you call me up
because you know I’ll be there

And I’ll see your true colors
shining through
I see your true colors
and that’s why I love you
so don’t be afraid to let them show
your true colors
true colors are beautiful
like a rainbow
. . . . .
I have kept the colours to a minimum while encouraging a soft rainbow effect to warm us to the idea that although we may have tears, there is always hope when we are true to ourselves and others…true colours are beautiful, like a rainbow…..

Dear karin … Wonderful wholeness. Poem/story and art. Beauty and the circle of compassion’s life living.
Very strong of heart. Your happy tears are most profound here, too.

  • thank you so much my friend…there is a feeling of wholeness here, I do sense that, when one idea unfurls and becomes a richer concept through the addition of other artforms…it feels so worthwhile, to extend the play and enhances the dynamic. Perhaps one can only experience a growing sense of wholeness, if they have known themselves to be broken. It is always a challenge to be honest with oneself and others. We never know how others will respond…but we must be true regardless if the colours of the rainbow are to be seen :)
