Here’s the coloured version of “Whale Song”

The Whale Rider watch the scene from the movie where Paikea loves the whale back into the sea and rides down into the deep, a beautiful movie, about a beautiful young leader and heroine, one not to miss…

uncoloured version available also click here

a sort of character semi-self portrait with whale to accompany my poem (drawing with cartridge pencil, tidied in photoshop with sepia layer) this will be coloured at a later stage, but as I’m wanting to draw more at the moment, it might be a little while before the fully coloured version is completed.

Whale Song
by karin taylor

Drop one more salty tear
into this already bountiful sea
sail me further or simply
consume me
so that only heartsong I hear
as the whales make their voyage
hearts rise to the surface
Sun smacks the blue
in a collision of stars
and diamond bursts
exhilaration
wondrous leviathians
always steal my heart
sailing effortlessly
I am with you in heart
we were never apart
share salty tears
with the ocean tonight
in solemn devotion
for all that is right
