Next in line is CHUNKIE China! ….a plasticine model I’ve also included lace a handmade fan which i painted..used silver twine to bind it together….some wool, thread, a lantern from another painting I’ve done in the past, some mesh for the background, and an ancient book that she sits upon….also some photoshopping….as China is an ancient land with a rich history…i really wanted this looking aged…in the end I was really happy with the results.

Once the Chunkies are created and photographed, I usually dismantle them to be used in the creation of more chunkies, so I am recycling the plasticine. These Chunkies have been very therapeutic to create over the holidays, whilst taking a break from red bubble and having my family around. I have many more to come, and although I won’t be on RB as much, I hope to also be doing some serious painting this year…so i look forward 2009 with much anticipation …

…and your backdrops are great – what do you use for them?

  • aw thank you
here i’ve used a roll of straw mesh over the top of an ancient vintage book of paintings given to me by my grandmother – and that is also what she’s sitting on, then I’ve altered the backdrop and the dolls’s colours using photoshop. The doll’s dress is actually ‘royal blue’ and the reeds are less vibrant in reality….so glad you like her Cathleen…

The other CHUNKIES have similarly styled backdrops, and I’ve just added changes to them in photoshop mainly. CHUNKIES in love was added to from the garden, with frangipanis, leaves and a few little flowers from my next door neighbour!

The flowers in CHUNKIE Geisha turn out to be just one flower in reality, reused over and over…thank goodness for photoshop… :) lol
