Created on my iPad in Procreate, this image of a mother dolphin with her new baby, was inspired by my recent holiday at Tangalooma Island Resort, on Moreto Island, where the wild dolphins come into the shore every night on sunset, to feed and visit the staff and tourists, it is always a magical, wholesome and healing experience, or at least, I have found it so. There are two baby dolphins at present, who mingle with the visitors, their names are Luna and Cruze. Luna is a cheeky young male dolphin who steals fish from the other dolphins especially his mother Tinkerbell. Dolphin babies have been known to suckle for up to 4 years, during that time they learn to hunt through what appears to be play sessions. They find things to play with, much like toddlers, except they like to play with seaweed and little puffer fish, which they prod until they blow up like ping-pong balls, and they they use their noses to ‘throw and catch’…poor little puffer fish! They are a delight to see and observe. The dolphins also observe human behaviour, which is fascinating. They will turn on their sides and actually look up at the people on the jetty, it makes you wonder, just what they might be thinking. When they do this, it is as though the world is transformed into a loving place, there is such a special feeling of goodwill. Dolphins have been known to help humans in trouble at sea, protect them from shark attack and drowning. They appear to have some altruistic traits that are present in human beings, as do elephants.
