doing things by halves....
A friend and fellow bubbler gottheshot wrote me with a great suggestion for doing half coloured in images to show the before and after effects. As a child, he recalled having a book which had the images only half coloured and it came with a little mirror, so you placed the mirror in the centre, and could see the rest of the image coloured in, like magic… thank you very much gottheshot as you can see, I’ve been having a bit of a play around doing this, and added each of these images to the actual artwork now, all thanx to you!
ps my work is not symmetrical, so these aren’t exactly halves, but it would be fun to get a little mirror and try this out, and i’m going to do that shortly, lol

it was an interesting thing to do, and strange to me just how subtle the colours are, i hadn’t realised! thank you very much Varry! :) x

Very interesting Karin. You know this is getting me thinking about your last journal. You know in the end of that video there was the drawings where on one side was the man’s face and on the other was the woman’s? And the fact that your’s are not symmetrical is also making me think how you talked about interesting characteristics of an imperfect face. Well I can agree there when I think of symmetry; I think I’ve seen some experiments done where people mirrored one side of their face and it looked a bit… funny~. But I’ve also have heard something about assymtrical faces being beautiful; well I certainly find it more expressive.
But this has been very interesting to see Karin, it has indeed so thank you for sharing :D

thanks Mui-Ling, it’s really interesting, as although some of my works look symmetrical they really aren’t…one trick i use tho…is i often cut and paste the left eye and stick it over the right eye, then flip it horizontally….as long as the eyes are exact, it seems to look good…it’s when the eyes are wrong shape that the painting looks wonky i’ve found… anyway, Mui-Ling, I have found this fascinating link from Dr Karl a well known scientist here in Australia…i hope you enjoy the read when you get a chance :)

What a brilliant concept, who would have thought it would look so effective!

Yeah I get what you’re saying … And thx…. these aren’t for sale as prints,I’ve just done them to show the difference between the drawing and the coloured version… Then I add these to the description ofthe full colour one :)
micklyn
excellent! I especially like the last one, with the little bunny’s head in colour… I think it works all the better because they’re NOT symmetrical, I suppose you could choose that way where to put the emphasis ( :

Lovely to view them like this. :)
