Bay Watch
a beautiful song about the beach at Byron, really worth a listen on utube
Forgotten Beach (Byron Bay) – Robert James
Bay Watch
Beach Series
Karin Taylor
Mixed Media ink pastel acrylic charcoal….plus a lot of gesso :)
I sketched this girl at the The Pass, Byron Bay…
a pretty famous beach, i live close to this beach…
it’s one of the most beautiful places on earth…
In my teenage years, everything we did involved the beach, all the fun we had, all the mischief we got up to, from midnight swims, to campfires…..that was our escape…..the first place I went camping on a sorta freedom trip when i was 15 with my two best girls Marve and Prawn…..we were the best friends ever….their we played amongst the surf, got bronzed and enjoyed the attention of the local surfer boys…ahhh memories…. that was one of the best, i have the greatest fondness for all things surrounding the beach, and this song about Byron Bay beach just says it all for me… i hope you like it….
Forgotten Beach
(Robert James) from the aussie band Gangajang
The sand was our bedroom in Byron Bay
And the water was a picture on the wall
There were swimmers and surfers and joyful play
Then just one moment there’s no-one there at all
I will always remember that forgotten beach
Just one moment no memory, two strangers embrace
I will remember the forgotten beach
Two strangers, no memory
But everything remains from that day
Under the lighthouse we were lost
On the beach in the sand at Byron Bay
I remember
I will always remember the forgotten beach
Just one moment no memory, two strangers embrace
I will remember the forgotten beach
Well the sand was our bedroom in Byron Bay
And the water was a picture on the wall
There were swimmers and surfers and joyful play
Just one moment there’s no-one there at all
Under the lighthouse we were lost
On the beach in the sand at Byron Bay
Oh darling, I remember
I will always remember the forgotten…
I will always remember the forgotten beach
Just one moment no memory, two strangers embrace
I will remember the forgotten…
Two strangers, no memory
Oh darling, everything remains…
Oh darling… two people, two strangers
Back in time, oh darling
Remember the forgotten beach

This is lovely Karin, you can feel the wind and it all just swirls together really nicely. It reminds me of when I was in class the other week and started sketching the girl in front of me she had the most beautiful hair like copper ringlets with the light shining on it, anyways I got caught and then felt like a weirdo lol
Karin Taylor
replied
haha!!!!!
you know the feeling then…it’s so wierd…
it made me wunder whether i should’ve asked permission, but i just don’t have the guts…then they want to look at it…and you know, pressure, pressure, pressure….all gets out of hand and i stuff it up!!!
Karin Taylor
replied
I meant to say thank you so much Cate for your lovely comments and story, i find it very interesting indeed :)
BubbleDoll

Come on Karin, you know there’s not as pretty on ‘baywatch’ the series!!! lol
Quite serious this one, moody :)
Karin Taylor
replied
lol….well, this was Byron Bay Watch…..
so not quite as buxom and a little more hippy :)
the gesso is the white acrylic which has an impasto (thick textured) effect on the hair and the waves, i also used it for highlighting her dax (trousers) :) i just looooooooooooooooooved gesso (jesso) from day one…it’s the best stuff…really thick and wonderful for textural effects or just giving tooth/roughness to your painting surface as an undercoat…it will seal it, and enable paint to ‘grab’...so you don’t have paint slipping on a shiny or smooth surface…gesso will just about stick to anything :) and it comes in black now as well!! i must get some now come to think of it :0
Cvail73
Can I ask, what do you do with the gesso?
Robin Pushe'e
Wow Karin, she looks darn close to the water like she could be swept away at any time.. Beautiful!
Karin Taylor
replied
thanx Robin,
yes, I’ve noticed that…
the waves roll in a rather unusual way at The Pass..at Byron Bay
you are often looking side-on at the waves there….
Cvail73
AAAAhhhhh, now I’ll die less stupid, lol, You’ve enlightened me about gesso!! Thanks for that :))
Karin Taylor

lol, it was very important you know, I have an unopened gesso pot at home I was looking at with wonder for weeks, lol!
Karin Taylor
replied
thank goodness i was here to help lol
can’t have you just staring at gesso all day
you’ve got to get downright messy with it!!!
here’s an idea…....get a large sheet of paper., cover yourself head to toe in gesso and do a wild body print!! take a photo and post it to RB so I know you’re using your gesso!!! lol
