My most recent work, this piece was influenced by the ‘gliders’ in my family who have taken to the sky recently. My husband, my son and their friend Erich are all involved in a local gliding club…and always suggesting I paint an aeroplane lol
I thought, there’s no way i can do that!
But i found a way, after lots of thinking on the subject to incorporate a sort of flying contraption i designed myself into this piece.
My girl is onward bound and it’s semi-self portrait i guess you could say…altho most people don’t see the resemblance to me….she is a lot younger, perhaps how i would like to be thought of lol
Also inspired by my lovely and ever patient friend Christine
a fabulous friend and textile artist, her threads and yarn and tactile things have affected me on an immense scale, so that all my work these days is imbued with these elements….although there is no actual wool or thread in the painting, i have used these as inspiration for her scarf and hair detail.
The khaki overalls are what i wear when i’m painting, with a white singlet in summer, or a jumper in winter…...i am yet to find a hairdresser who could accomplish this hairstyle for me.. the little parrot represents conscience, a little voice that knows right from wrong….this is an idea loosely taken from a movie i saw a while ago ‘The Golden Compass’
I dedicate this painting to Christine, as she has listened to all my crazy ideas, and very carefully encourages me or points out things that may help, and i don’t know where i’d be without her…..thanx Chris :)
Patchwork and patterns, repitition, daisies, journeys, serene expressions, genuity…..

Amazing stuff Karin, I don’t know why you would think that you couldn’t paint a plane I believe you can do anything. Your work is absolutely fabulous, I love the bird, feels like you could just put your hand out and it would climb off the picture on to it.
Karin Taylor
replied
Hi Cate, thanks for your vote of confidence :)
It means a lot to me :)

Wow Karin. This is a very very very very coooooooool image. Love the associations and – yes – for a change (sometimes I just want to look without reading) it’s helpful to read the description, though the work can and does stand on its own as a visual experience. As for the hairdo, well I should think any punk freak could point you the way to the spray cans full of stiffeners and other shock substances and get your hair spiked and dyed in no time!
Karin Taylor
replied
thanks for your lovely comments faithart.
they are much appreciated :)
frozenfa
great one, Karin!! i really thought you used some threads again for the hair.. it looks so much like real threads!! and yea!! i think it really looks like you.. reminds me of your profile photo in your website.. hehe.. love the soft colors in this one.. i like the hair and scarf best and i think they really stands out, thanks to the other softer colors in the rest of the composition.. So will you try flying too? =D
Karin Taylor
replied
thanks for checking it out fa,
um, at this stage no big plans to go flying…but i might one day
just as a passenger.
hope i don’t get butterflies in my tummy tho :)

L K Southward
This is a real contrast to all your other pieces- but brilliant non the less- I love those colours! Where does your inspiration come from Karin?
Karin Taylor
replied
...thanx very much LK
.....this is my latest work, so it’s less flamboyant, more serious
.......coming from deeper places emotionally, but i’m enjoying it as much :)
.........all these ideas run through my head…like a poker machine until it
..........stops on one…then i gather more ideas from visual feasting and
...........and just trying to associate everything i see with the initial idea
..............tying more and more ideas together until it feels complete in
................essence :) so inspiration comes from everything everyone
.................says, does, and all that i see once an initial idea has rolled
......................up in my head :))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

..thx Mui-Ling..art was once just fun, plain and simple…creating something pretty, or beautiful or fun…..something just i enjoyed as a hobbby..but now it is more than that…the process seems to require more from me these days ie blood, sweat & tears come to mind…lol

Karin, I was delighted to view your very creative and exceptional gallery. I want to spend more time viewing the amazing diversity of your wonderful artwork. I choose this photo as it speaks to the child in me, a whimsical fantasy of a beautifully executed girl taking off in your rendering of a very imaginative airplane. The background colors and imagery are wonderful as are the bold and unique features of the main character. I love this style using mixed media to integrate emotion and great technical skill. I have a fantasy plane that is a car that flies that you can see @moller.com. I would love to be the character in this fantasy ready to take off on a fun adventure. Your work is fun to look out, but also has a serious side as reflected in this beautiful composition. I look forward to viewing more of your gallery and I appreciate your posting your works into our group, the healing gallery. This would be a good choice since it is a shift in style and as you said blends emotion and concepts in a very original way. I also want to thank you for your wonderful comments on my work. You are a very talented artist.
Karin Taylor
replied
wow Julie, wht a lovely in-depth and perceptive comment on a piece that is definitely imbued with everything i have to give, and one that i love dearly….it is most fulfilling to hear someone speak to me about it in this way, you have ‘seen’, and I think that’s what I long for….someone to see past the painting into me…..thank you for taking so much time and thought with it, it means sooo much to me…..i will definitely go and check out your ‘machine’ next!!! xo
Karin Taylor
replied
Julie, that fantasy plane/car is quite incredible…is this your design, or something you’d like to have for yourself one day? I will show my family too, as they are flying enthusiasts, I am sure it will attract lots of gasps and sighs and interest!!! thank you for the reference!

Thanks Karin (for letting me know)....Em’s going through a ‘sad’ patch atm…. If I could have changed my own history (more poignantly, the people I’d met recently, and then ‘trusted’..!) then things would be so much better. My mistake for being too open ;)
Nonetheless – all’s but a blip, and beauty remains ;)
Karin Taylor
replied
....so sorry to hear that Chris, i hope icecreams, happier dreams and fun times are but a moment away from Emmett and glad that beauty prevails :) give him a squishy hug from me
