Hi blossom, thanks very much, i’ve had this idea for a while brewing in the backwaters of my brain, and it was lovely to bring it out and see what it would look like in real life :)
hi Jan…thank you very much, but i have had a lot of work i’ve wanted to upload that i did previous to joining reb bubble 7 weeks ago….so really i haven’t been actually created all this work over the 7 week period….but some of it, like this one, was created yesterday :)))))
beautiful!! rarely seen a black and white (well sorta..) piece from you.. This is beautiful.. i love the lil shadow she cast.. and that lil one by her shoulder is cute.. tho Tim just told me he gonna peck her earrings, but let’s just ignore Tim.. Hehe.. Lovely kimono.. is it a kimono? the obi don’t seem to have the obi bow behind.. is that an obi? the belt?
.....hehe hi little fa…no obi…..this is more chinese than japanese this time, more representative of the tang and earlier dynasties of the court women… particularly the headdress she’s wearing….in those days many intelligent, beautiful and musical women were seconded to the royal palace as additional adornments to the beauty and character….they were really into the arts during this period of history…and i believe the women were fabulous horse riders as well….. isn’t it fascinating stuff fa!! :)
.....i understand the kimono originated from China, but the obi is mainly a Japanese addition….this is where a lot of the confusion lies around my imagery of asian girls….espec. those who have studied one or the other of these cultures often comment and wish to know which culture my girls really emanate from…...i have to explain that unfortunately i come from a ‘global’ perspective and have combined things i’ve seen in all or both cultures together…..which may offend some people who are traditionalists….which i apologise for…..but there must be room for artistic licence….hehe for i am really just a rebel at heart :)
Thanks Michael, there are many wonderful books written from the perspective of asian women aren’t there. I find it very enlightening to learn about the culture and history of other people, it helps me understand myself :)
wow.. that’s really interesting.. kimono actually originates frm china? i didn’t know.. that’s so interesting really!! Thanks for sharing, Karin!! hmmm.. i wonder if japan adapt the silly china’s way of bounding the women’s feet.. that’s abuse i’d say… wearing such tiny shoes..
thank you Steven :) my most used mediums are chalk pastels, coloured inks, acrylics watered down with mediums…and loads of charcoal….i started off with oils originally, but don’t tend to use them much nowadays due to the toxic nature of the turps….but i still love how an oil painting makes me feel, they are so luscious and satiny, a very difficult effect to get with the media i use :)
