‘Inspired Series’ card by Karin Taylor

Gypsy is a mixed media painting on canvas textured paper. She has been hidden away in my studio for a while now, awaiting her final touches. It turned out, she was finished and didn’t need anymore work…I hope you like her. I created this painting after I’d read of the gypsy clans who settled here and still roam Australia, a little known fact. It is in fact interesting, how many Aussies came from a gypsy background.

Gypsy belongs to the following groups:

  • Karin Taylorcommunity helper replied

thank you very much for your lovely comment on Gypsy anna, much appreciated…I have to ask what does ‘Le temps des gitannes’ translate as? :D

  • annacuypers

    annacuypers

Oops, sorry, it means ” time of the gypsies ”; That’s how the lovely movie, by Emir Custurica was called here in Belgium. My grandparents’ parents were also gypsy. So I’m feeling related to them. This work I see as a tribute.
    Cheers,
    Anna

  • Karin Taylorcommunity helper replied

Thank you so much for translating it Anna :) haven’t heard of the movie before, and wonder if it came to Australia? I’d like to see it…....I am just amazed and thrilled to hear that you are descended from the gyspies!

I think this one has to be my favourite of yours thus far. I love the way the reds/oranges and black work so well together. Gives it a semi sombre feel.

  • Karin Taylorcommunity helper replied

thank you, i like her very much too,.... at the time i created her, i was reading about the real gypsies that actually live here in Australia, i know some descendants of these gypsies, and it all rather fascinates me :)
