Karin, i was wondering, what scale are your paintings, also, Since i’m into photo, I apreciate that taking photo of a painting is not very easy, how do you get them into the box? scanning, or photo?
    :)

  • Karin Taylorcommunity helper replied

Hi Cvail73, that’s a great question, and you’re right, there’s a real knack to it.. you should have seen the first photos we took of paintings…they were dreadful! A lot of these pix of my paintings were taken professionally by someone other than me with a 22 megapixel hasselblad digital/SLR camera…woa! ...and rightly so, cost me a fortune :D

But these days, I have my own little digital 5mp camera and I’ve been taking shots of some of them myself. I can’t scan ‘em as their bigger than A4, but to give you an idea, they range from A3’s, A2’s, A1’s and whatever a double A1 is….the paintings I do now are largest.

I find that natural light is best, and it’s difficult because I use a lot of black ink which tends to be shiny, I have to do it an an angle, any angle that works basically, and then crop them…....boost the colours, brightness and contrast mainly and sometimes up them a bit too.

Sometimes I hold the paintings on an angle while my husband directs me where to stand so we don’t get too much shine/shadow, but lately I lay them on the studio floor, and photograph them standing from directly above….I sometimes have to place a large sheet of foamcore behind or beside or in front of the piece of art to mute the light coming in to the studio to reduce that darn shine.

Thanks for taking time to ask, I really appreciate it :D

    Cheers, K

Thank you for your very complete answer Karin :)
I wish I could see your painting with my own eyes :)) However the photos are brilliant, and I have it confirmed (I did not doubt it), there is a lot of effort involved in them. I have taken pictures of my own painting myself, but I’ve never been too patient with it, because in the first place my paintings aren’t worth it :)
So as a conclusion, I’m twice impressed! :)

  • Karin Taylorcommunity helper replied

    Hi Cvail73, you’re welcome :D
I didn’t realise YOU paint TOO!!!

I love the concept that nature and its rainbow colours are reflected in the colour of the butterflies and then into the colours of the Little Angels clothes. I love the way the arms of the clothes sway to the left on the left and sway to the right – on the right hand one :o) Even their hair and which hand they hold the fan is all
mirrored. What a great form of symmetry which is really pleasing to the eye.
I have never been so analytical of art in my life – but you certainly do inspire this in me.

I love this print. We just accepted a referrral for a baby girl in S.Korea and were looking for a nice Korean themed print to put in her nursey…this is the one! I just ordered it! What great work you do!

  • Karin Taylorcommunity helper replied

Hi and thank you!!! That’s just wonderful, so happy you’ve chosen “Little Angels” for your sweet little girls wall… I remember so well the pictures in my bedroom and illustrations in my childrens stories when I was a child… So nice to get lost in them through daydreams and imaginings…. It is an honour to think your daughter will grow up with this little artwork from me nearby :). I wish you and your family and the little one every joy and happiness in life…. Karin :)
