Hidden Treasure is a mixed media production on hardboard.
Included in the mix are moulding paste for the eggs, gold and bronze paint, silver thread, fabric, charcoal, ink, pastel and acrylic with a gloss varnish over the eggs.
There is a poem in the background in gold cursive handwriting, which reads:
Hidden Treasure
Golden eggs are not always easy to find
Sometimes they lay hidden in the pockets of our seams
Sometimes we have to look beyond the obvious to see
the beauty in others~ traits of kindness, compassion, nurture and
gentleness are not always obvious at first glance and
what one may perceive as a fault or weakness
may actually be a great strength.

frozenfa
very interesting piece.. no more vibrant colors..
this piece looks pretty angsty/melancholic to me.. n_n”
did you compose the poem? it’s lovely..
Karin Taylor
replied
Hi frozenfa, yes this is a more recent piece…..I did paint it during some soul searching and it is very reflective of what I discovered….definitely a bit darker this one :D I wrote the poem to go with the mood of the piece…I wanted to make a statement…I’m fairly quietly spoken, but words cut very deep, and it is becoming more important to me that I express myself a bit more in my work. K:D

Oh my goodness ~ why haven’t I seen this one before?!!!!! It must have slipped past me unnoticed!
It’s wonderful in so many ways, but I love the rich colours and the words you’ve written compliment it so well.
Karin Taylor
replied
thank you so much karen, i put this one on a while ago, probably before we were aware of one another :) I had such vision about this painting for a long time before i did it…the colours which were a mixture of reds and deep pinks combine with gold and bronze paint really gave the background a glorious almost velveteen texture….i still delight to look at it…i’m longing to have it framed and mounted on the wall….it is yet to be displayed anywhere….there are many parts of me in it….the look of me when i was little, and a bit of likeness to my nieces who are half indonesian…the chooks we had, and the fact i wish more people looked beyond exteriors into the interior of a person before passing judgement…i found on rb, that i express my true self and am accepted moreso than in real life, where i appear to be bumbling in the exterior….and a person of extremes…it is so nice to be accepted…my husband said today, upon reading some of the comments that i’ve received…that is so wonderful because the ‘real’ Karin is getting across and people responding to that is a moving experience for me :)
Antanas
great work
Karin Taylor
replied

very elegant production
Karin Taylor
replied
thank you!
Keith Russell
Is she going to look after this chook or squeeze it silly with love?
Karin Taylor
replied
lol, good question…i haven’t figured it out yet….she has this look on her face which i find hard to describe…it could be construed as a number of things, defiance, contempt, warmth, don’t mess with me…i just dunno…a lot of emotion was coming through while i was involved with this painting :) i think the chook is her ally though :)
Keith Russell
Yep – those confusions are all in the picture – I have seen my kids like this with their first home born puppies – pride, fear, love, excitement, defiance – it just goes on and on. Luckily the puppies survived.

replied
lol!!

Pip Gerard
I feel sad that I’d not taken the time to read the description on this one to see how personal it was to you. I now see it completely differently. it’s a beautiful piece… but obviously it’s most beautiful and meaningful to you which is definitely the main thing. xxoo
I see the golden egg that is Karin that’s for sure. ♥
Karin Taylor
replied
thanx so much Pip, don’t feel sad, feel happy! :)
I do…..when people meet me in person first, i think they never really know the real me….it’s good to have met me online first…because i am a bit shy in r/l (real life) and who i am doesn’t show through as well …. online i get to type my heart out…it’s much harder to speak it in person…. hugs…. xoxo
Pip Gerard
I completely agree. I was talking about that on Sat with my old best friend from high school (I’m so happy we keep in touch). When Im writing things for my art and online it comes from a deeper place. When I’m around people I get very shy too and find I need to really trust the person before I’ll open up as much. thats what I love so much about Red Bubble.. its like I feel like I’m the real me so much more than in real day to day life.
