‘Beach Series’ card by Karin Taylor
‘I saw the angel in the marble and I carved until I set him free.” – Michelangelo
Ocean Angel is a mixed media production (ink, charcoal, pastel, acrylics) on canvas textured paper.
Ocean Angel is a beautiful mer-angel, a mythical creature from my own imagination….unlike the mermaids who are generally mischievous in folklore, Ocean Angel tends to care :D
Ocean Angel belongs to the following groups:

wow… nice!! i like the flow of her hair..
how long did it take to come up with each painting? they’re awesome.. =)

Gee, that’s a hard question…..these were from a while ago, I started painting seriously in 2002….each painting was taking me about a day to complete, but coming up with the ideas spanned a longer time. Many ideas come along and occasionally the dots join together in my head and I have a mind picture or ‘aha’ moment…..then feverishly get to work. These days my works are more complex, they take longer to ‘cook’ in my mind, and longer to produce…..up to a few weeks each :D …..my current paintings are also a lot larger…...these were done mostly in A2 and A1 size which was much more manageable and a lot quicker to execute :D

wow.. that’s so interesting! i often get those mind picture thing too, but always fail to bring them out.. =( each time i try to draw them out, it just doesn’t look right, i get frustrated, then i give up.. lol~ but i dun wanna give up!! will try make them real like you can make your!! n_n”
now if only i can magically paint my house in 1 day.. lolz… XD
Karin Taylor
go for it!!!! just a little encouragement for you frozenfa – my mind pics never come out like they were in my mind…..i had to let go of that and just go with the ideas and the flow and see what happens…sometimes (all the time) I just end up trying to make the best of ‘happy accidents’
Cvail73

Hum, you do have your very own style, very strong though. I started painting too, but I always do abstract stuff.. :(

This is so stunning love the colours…she would look great as a tee without the waves?...I have missed some of your fabulous work tooooo…must have been sleeping
Karin Taylor
replied
thank you so much traceyanne, she would look nice, ‘cept she is cropped, it would be hard to make her look just right, given her arm and part of butt is missing :( but would’ve been great otherwise!
Tracey-Anne Pryke
Oh! Yeh.. did not spot that…can you not re-sketch in pen so she is just ink?
Karin Taylor
replied
.....oh yes, i spose it’s possible, dunno tho :)

shanmclean
wow, this is slightly different from your usual style i think, but still brilliant. lovely work!
Karin Taylor
replied
thx so much shan…i’ve been thru a few different stages…. this came from the beach series when all i was doing were things associated with the beach and water…and a lot of figures from behind….. someone commented that my faces were too confronting, i then went through a stage of doing the girls from behind…weird how one comment can spring forth many new creations. I now revert bck to doing the faces i so love…regardless of public opinion…lol!! so glad you like this :)
