Beach Picnic

Beach Picnic

“Beach Picnic” is a pencil drawing which I’ve coloured digitally, I hope you like this image with mother and daughter in similar sundresses. As a child we enjoyed beach picnics all the time, mum would make us special fried chicken (better than Kentucky Fried) and we would go out on the boat to a little island, where i would play with soldier crabs for hours on end, while dad fished and mum sunbaked… they were wonderful times. We also went on the annual Beach Picnic to Bonny Hills with the church and we were great friends with the priest back in those days who was a top water skier.. We would see so many things at Bonny Hills, sea snakes slithered past in the creek where we were swimming and there were amazing white clay deposits in the sand….hours of fun were had by all… not to mention we even had a little mass there… top fun :)

this is stunning Karin, I absolutely adore it!

  • Karin Taylorcommunity helper replied

aaaw, thanks so much jlbt!!.. it’s pretty fabric..every time i do a new dress mum seems to find some fabric in the sewing box from years gone by that must have seeped into my subconscious somehow.. I do recall a lovely brown fabric that had half circles of orange pieces all over it, and pretty sure mum and i had a mother and daughter set. Mum always bought extra material and made me a little dress to match hers, but usually in a different style to suit my age :) x

  • jemimalovesbigted

Beautiful interpretation of childhood memories…I like that you have composed it so unconventionally…the dresses are a real trip in themselves…I love them…

  • Karin Taylorcommunity helper replied

aw geez, I’m glad you like the fruity dresses! There seems to be a deep well or pool within of things from childhood which i’m drawing from, not intentionally… because it’s not til I’ve completed a piece that i begin to see the connections, which is really odd… so it’s coming from the subconscious mind :) x

lol, too true Natsky…but i think whoever is in the yacht is a daring adventurer and will no doubt have excellent survival skills….well, one can only hope so!! • frozenfa

    frozenfa

i know i should be working but shhh… XD
am super loving this piece, Karin!! i saw this last night while emailing you.. i must say it keeps distracting me from my email.. hehe.. there’s so many that i thought i love about this.. from the fun fruity dress, to the sweetest lil dove? is it dove? i just love how it flies towards the one already perched on her hair.. i especially love the one already perching.. it’s so cute!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

then this piece reminds me of one of our customer’s comment.. she’s like asking how come it’s always a back-view.. i was like.. Oo” i dunno.. eheh.. any reason, Karin? i don’t know about you, but i actually like back-views!! i dunno why.. i feel like it allows me to step in and take on as 1 of the girl in the drawing.. does that makes sense? it’s like everytime you draw a backview, i feel like i can step into the painting and be 1 of the girls! that’s why i love your backviews!! i always feel like a part of the painting~ eheh.. ^ _ ^“

  • Karin Taylorcommunity helper replied

actually..that is a great question fa… thank you for the beautiful response firstly…now onto the answer.

Once I took my work to a gallery in Byron Bay.. the owner said that my work was too confronting with the front on stares…people wouldn’t go for it she said…well, you know how sensitive I am, i just quite doing full frontals and from then on it influenced me to do them from behind… i wish it were more of an answer like what you’ve said..that is so beautiful, to think that they allow you to step in to the painting…i seee that and i feel that…. i love to gaze out past the ocean to the horizon… i find there’s something charming about watching a person thinking and dreaming… i wonder what’s going through their minds…i like people who stop to listen, stop to think, stop to talk, stop to smile…i think the back views have more affection in them for nature and as far as restoration and relaxation…they allow one to rest on gazing..as if it’s more acceptable to rest…because right in front of you is a restful person… it’s like a reminder to care care of you… to rest, to relax, to sit a while.. to enjoy the nature all around you…to take it all in. In the words of one of my favourite bands “The Waifs” in their song Take it In>

    Take it in…

_now she’s thinking of the red soil and those mango trees
well in her mind she’s still splashing round down on cable beach
and her eyes are as rich and as far away
    as the sunset there
but she’s not taking in a word i say
so i might as well be talking to my self

take it in, take it all in
now is the time that will not come again
take it in take it all in
this is the day and its here for the living

so we stepped out side into this melbourne weather
and with a shock it brings her back to where she is
well now we’ve made this place our home
    surrounded by unknown
    we’re gonna stick it out
    until it comes together

take it in, take it all in
now is the time that will not come again
take it in take it all in
this is the day and its here for the living

we’re only living for a day or some days gone by
you’ll take it in each moment
never notice what you had until it passed you by, passed you by

so take it in, take it all in
now is the time that will not come again
take it in take it all in
this is the day and its here for the living

    take it all in
now is the time that will not come again
takle it in yeah yeah (take it all in) take it all in
(this is the day that is here for the living)
this is the day and its here for the living_

  • frozenfa

    frozenfa

naa~ no worries, Karin!! it’s lovely with just the lyrics.. =D i think i can youtube the video.. i agree with you, Karin! it’s like, at back views.. it’s somewhat more peaceful.. more relaxing.. it’s like taking a break.. i like to do that too.. like when i’m walking.. if i see a lil pipit or any lil bird, even mynah, i’ll slow down and smile and say hi.. the other day i just nagged at Lulu for scaring this bunch of birds away by walking straight into them.. lolz!!! i purposedly walked a lil off the way, so that they can eat peacefully, and she had to just disturb them! hehe.. i love the nature! since i live in the city, people usually look stressed or annoying.. it’s the plants and birds that makes me happy! =D

  • Karin Taylorcommunity helper replied

haha…really, you do that too…i always stop to talk to the magpies and a little bird always grabs my attention and pulls at my heartstrings, more and moreso lately, ever since you gave me Pippit!!! Pippit did something to my heart!! he worked his sweet way right in there :)... i love to find nature even in built up areas like cities… it’s special when you discover it in the city, or what about a plant growing out from bricks, or a tiny flower…it warms the heart :) x
