Hi Pip, nah…just the mouse…I tried a tablet but it doesn’t feel comfortable to me. It’s very simple, just very very time consuming, this took 8 hours straight to colour. It’s mainly masking and bumping colours with a little bit of painting thrown in for good measure with the brushes, using lots of tools in Photoshop for shading and highlights, etc. To make it look good, I really have to draw in a lot of detail first with the pencil…so i draw everything in, and then sometimes will make changes adding things, duplicating flowers, etc….if it looks like it needs more balance .. thanx very much Pip … hi Lorna :) x

sparkles, that means a lot to me, i’m glad you like the colours…I just start off with one colour and go from there, in this one it was sepia, then bluish mauve, then the soft pinks/yellows/greens/aquas came into play…i had no particular colour scheme in mind…i just let it unfold. :) x

...it means a lot to me … that you can see that Marion, i think i feel very comfortable with drawing, it fits me just right… i never thought it was legitimate to just draw, but i see others doing it and it felt like that’s what i should pursue…I’m still looking into ways that I might be able to colour by hand, but at the moment, i’m enjoying the digital colouring very much :) xxx

Thx for your wonderful response Josette. I am so thankful. I started doing the colouring more by accident, it began when I had to learn to optimize the photos of my art works, colour matching them accurately. This led to trying out new techniques with masking, cutting, adjusting colour hues and playing with brushes, tones, textures etc. I think it’s just slowly evolved from colour adjusting my original paintings to these methods I’m using today… I don’t think I’m doing it the conventional way, but rather the only way I know how in my limited knowledge and understanding of all things digital. For some reason, this us working out okay and I feel quite comfortable using the mouse… Altho afterwards I need a few days to rest as it is such an intense time and uses up a lot of energy… It’s z different feeling to painting with real paints but every bit as satisfying. The tablet hasn’t worked out for me but u see it’s huge potential and in the future may get the courage to try again until I get the hang of it, but I found it a little discouraging originally and definitely felt very uncomfortable at first too :). Maybe you’ll give it another try again too someday :) xxx

Thank you so much sal and poppy… I felt deeply satisfied with this one, for once it felt like most of it went right with very little of the frustration that sometime comes with trying to get things just so…all the illustrations in books of fairies and stuff we used to read when I was little, they all come into play here… Just so stories, Hans Christian Anderson, the mermaids in the golden pools of water swirling… The fish that were once fairies or humans who had spells cast over them… I think all these things are there in this one, a sort of enchanted evening ….. I wonder whether I should rename it … One enchanted evening….??? Let me know :). I also would love to hear Maya, Miss, Indy, and Tims thoughts on this one if they get a chance to have a wee look :) xxxxx
