Tree Hug

original drawing on A3 acid free cartridge paper

Just the thing for friends, children, nursery, birthdays, special occasions and something a little different perhaps for an unusual Christmas card.

Hi Anne, and thank you for your lovely response. I happened to be at the pub listening to a band outdoors (my son’s drum teacher is in the band) and his gorgeous curly haired daughter (all of about 2 and a half years old) was trying to climb this huge, huge, huge pine tree… (we were outside on the grass) and it just sunk right into my head what a delightful painting that would be… so i have them to thank for the inspiration really… xoxox

aw, thank you so much Janis, yes it is very pthalo green… i do love it too, and i love the dark blue which i think is ultramarine or is it prussian, not too sure, i got another shade a while ago, which whilst it is blue is very close to black..i do love concentrated colour very much :)

  • LeilaniMelayna

    LeilaniMelayna

Yes….I love to try different colors, etc. Some folks might say…she’s so compulsive. In a sense I probably am, however…after I make copies of my iamges…then I have so much fun making each one have its own character. I can then step back & see the real strengths of each one & then I am able in my own mind to say I gave it my best shot & these few are my favorites…or This one is obviously the best. I always critique my own work. That is what sets me apart & makes me better! It is my personal design method!

  • Karin Taylorcommunity helper replied

aw, thank you very much Linda… i have yet to hug a tree myself…but i intend to… just so long as it doesn’t bite me (ants and spiders)..lol…i have this habit of getting spiders living in my ears… seriously… i try not to give them the idea i am a tree.. but they seem to figure i might be and like to give it a try…so far i have had a click beetle, a spider and a fly.. :)... lol

Adorable, Maya is convinced it is a portrait of herself, she has the same jacket and boots, but you must have thought she already had her hair cut!
Love it all right down to the lil white glow worms on the roots…are they gws?

  • Karin Taylorcommunity helper replied

aw, thank you so much Sal and Maya and everyone….i don’t see the glow worms but if you can see them, that’s what they are!! lol

and so cute about Maya thinking that about her hair…cos she was saying how she’d like it in a bob you know, after Indo trip.. and how sweet Indi would look too with a bob… the white things are bobbles from the coat and shoes..but there is a greenish glow on the boots at the back, yes, I’d say they must be glow worms i just didn’t put them there….but it is a magic tree….so anything is possible :) xoxoxoxoxo

What a wondrous tree, with ribbon like textures. I love how this hugger’s hair echoes the colours of the bark, and especially her little teddy bear. The colours you used are striking. As always, I’m impressed by the original drawing, by your skills. I share your values, and the child inside that you’re willing to celebrate. :)

  • Karin Taylorcommunity helper replied

such a lovely response i want to thank you so much for taking a look and being so thoughtful…you notice all the little details and i love that…it makes me smile! My little niece Maya is absolutely sure this is a portrait of her…she makes me smile too :) (she’s 6!) xxx
