a little drawing I created by hand a few weeks ago, I’ve just completed painting this one digitally, in time for Mother’s Day in Australia which falls on May 10 (just happens to be my birthday too :)

i just found out that my mum has a photo of a similar image when I was 3 with her at the beach in Yamba, on our first family holiday, she is having dad copy it and send it to me, and i’ll post it here and perhaps with a little ‘memories’ journal about it all, as I have no memory of mum and I doing this, only the photo to prove it happened. I have one memory of that time, but its of me catching my first fish with my father :) x

the usual, the usual, the usual! merveilleux, you have such a beautiful style, and always so full of emotions. It’s magic for the child in all of us. i can smell the beach, the sand, and my mum’s skin rubbed in oil (was before the ozone ;-) thank you !

beautiful….sweet…..i just love the feeling here, karin…..beachcombing is so fun and interesting and magical…..as is this art….of course i love the spirals in the waves and just the whole energy of it is wonderful!!! a fave for me!

aw, Jan…thank you dear friend, i too just love beachcoming and so do my parents…. there’s a wonderful element of ‘anything’s possible’....i mean what would happen if one found a magic lamp with a genie in it….like in the arabian knights or somesuch….or a treasure chest, or a beautiful flower….or a special shell….or a piece of amazing seaglass…..or a bit of driftwood that looks like an animal…or a pearly bit of something…etc…...and it’s just so cathartic really…so glad you see and feel the spirals and the energy here!! thank you so much. :) xx

so, i would have been just 3 years old, and that’s when my first memories of you are. i remember catching my first fish then, i think it was a baby flounder and dad you you were so proud of me, you were sitting up in the dunes watching, i think you wore your black leggings….i recall dad yelling out to you to look at me with my first fish…that was a special time :) xxx

aw Paola, it’s so good to see you, thank you very much, i did this a few weeks ago, without any thought of mother’s day at all, it’s quite funny how things turn out hey, and yeah, this year it falls on Mother’s day, amazing, about the third time this has happened in my life, i was born 1 hour after Mother’s day and every so often my birthday actually falls on mothers day, which is special, but I don’t think i get as many presents :(((((( xx

lol, yes, I agree…it’s more of a beachcombing expedition and daydreaming session….think they’d get a bit of a dumping in there somehow :) that never stopped my little boy from trying to run out into the biggest breakers no matter what the weather, we had to stop going to the beach for 2 years until he got older, as he was so fast, running into the ocean fully clothed…he had this strange thing for water. Another time he jumped into a swimming pool fully clothed and the adult with him had to dive in after him, he’d sunk to the bottom….he then wanted to go straight back in even after nearly drowning! :)

I like this a lot, the waves are so solid, slightly threatening even and both to my mind seem to be looking beyond the waves and into their future…the mother reassuring the child by holding her hand.

how intuitive you are vicky, yes, i didn’t see or realise it, but there is more to this than first meets the eye. My mum saw this today, and she was shocked to realise this is actually a sort of scene from very early in my childhood…i had no idea it was locked away there….mum saw the drawing while we were away on hols but it didn’t spark anything, until she saw it in colour…and immediately she felt she’d experienced this scene…she went through our family photos and came up with a picture my father took of me at the age of 3 holding my mother’s hand at the beach in Yamba. they are sending me the photo..i just can’t wait, i don’t think i’ve ever seen that photo and i have no conscious memory of the time she speaks of, but i think it has come out here subconsciously…i’m quite taken aback by it all :) x

I think this is one of my new faves… I like that there is more than one figure and the waves are beautiful, almost scary, so the mum holding daughter’s hand is a nice warming touch. You just keep on keeping on Karin, and you never let us down!

i read what you wrote about Ben running into water, and jumping into the pool, and attempting to jump in again, even after almost drowning.. Gosh, Ben sounds so cute!!! hehehe!! you must be pretty freaked out to see him rushing to the water? hehe..

I love this piece, Karin!! when i first saw it last night, the first thing in my mind when i see the little one is that she looks like you! XD very very sweet piece.. i love the different shades of color you use.. for the waves, the sky, the clothes, the sand.. it’s all so inspiring!! =D

wow fa, i am so happy you like this, but more than that, that you sensed this was somehow special and somehow me….so happy you like my little efforts at digital colouring, it’s very easy really. not always does it work, but most of the time, and i actually enjoy it more than proper painting i think :) x

o yes Ben!!! he was a nightmare, he’s much calmer now….
but when he was little, very uncontrollable…he would run across the field and leave me for dead…that fast he was….just like my little brother Timothy…he would run and run and run…and we couldn’t catch up….Tim used to ‘escape’ our house all the time, and neigbours would phone us and we’d send out the search party….but one time Ben ‘escaped’ too, and ran down the road, laughing and gurgling and looking back….i was running down the road in my pj’s after him…naughty little boy he was…he called our fence ‘the cage’...i think he wanted his freedom a little too early (he was all of 2 or 3 around this time fa) :) xx
