Chelsea by the Sea

Chelsea is a pencil drawing coloured digitally
I created this whilst on an island holiday recently where I drew for hours on end.
I really loved the feel of this particular drawing, and her character….not the prettiest little girl….but such an interesting little face, and funny shaped body emerged :)

Chelsea by the Sea belongs to the following groups:

Childhood, Cutest of the Cute, Riginals, The true beauty, Who are YOU to Judge? and Woman Appreciation Available for sale as

Greeting Cards, Matted Prints, Laminated Prints, Mounted Prints, Canvas Prints, Framed Prints and Posters

I don’t work in any other field at the moment tho, most of my attention is given to creating works of art and taking care of my 2 kids :) xx

I have noticed that the expression in the eyes and stance of your figures, not to mention your colour choices seem to be very significant…is there a story here or just artistic interpretation?...your figures seem to be always saying “Here I am” while looking straight at the viewer…I find them incredibly compelling and would like to be walking around in a gallery hung with all of them on the walls…then I could walk from one to the other, pondering over the story they tell…

  • Karin Taylorcommunity helper replied

very perceptive of you Janis…yes, i do think there is a story in here … I just can’t seem to articulate it very well. I think I am in all of the paintings I create to some degree, and they are all somehow showing aspects of me, repeatedly. I am trying to say something. I think i just want people to give me a chance, and not dismiss me too quickly, at first glance…I may not seem much… I may seem insignificant….well, that’s how I very often feel…but I think there is more to me…if people will just give me a chance :) xx so i ask them to linger a little longer…. and not just with me, but with others who may seem insignificant, for everyone has a story, everyone is significant….even those we have no time for…i think that’s the deep message in all of my work lately …

thank you so much for taking the time to look so closely and ponder my work, it is so satisfying for me…i think it’s what i long for :) x

ooh…karin….this really resonates with me…these wonderful colors…..her obvious connection with the water energies….with all of nature…..i really feel this one, karin, and i am so loving all these new creations…..they feel so profound in some way….

  • Karin Taylorcommunity helper replied

Hi Jan, thank you, it’s so good to hear that….I have a strong water connection, more powerful than any other really…..so happy you could sense that and there is a more depth to these paintings.

  • Janis Zroback

    Janis Zroback

I see much more in them than just a pretty picture…yes they are small figures that some may dismiss as just cute, but to me they are so much more…I do see you in all of them…I sit and stare athem for a long time, and sometimes I wish that I could actually talk to you about them, as then I would be able to do them justice…
I believe you are trying to say, don’t just walk by but look at me…the eyes especially, because they are exaggerated in size, make me want to try to figure out what’s going on behind them…none of them are exactly alike…you have very cleverly managed to convey a lot of meaning with just small changes in expression, with they way they stand, with the way they look at the viewer, but underlying all of them is a plea to take you seriously….I take you very seriously indeed…you tell a story with each and every work…a very powerful one…

I agree with everything that Janis said above. Getting to know you through the exchange of bubblemails and through our little conversations, I think I can now see you in ALL of the images you’ve uploaded since your holiday. Not just in a visual way though Kaz; it goes kind of deeper than that… like you’ve deeply embedded every fibre of your being in them and they radiate your inner beauty and the way in which you want the world to see you, kind of vulnerable and soft and gentle and like you have a message you want to share with us all – there’s something so powerful about them. It’s hard to explain, but these recent works have so much more of YOU in them than your earlier work did. x

  • Karin Taylorcommunity helper replied

like you’ve deeply embedded every fibre of your being in them

Kaz, you kinda floored me…my jaw dropped to the ground when i read this… you know me pretty well then :)

i really did immerse my whole self into these images, thinking I had nothing to lose by just being myself and putting whatever i wanted to into them…having that week away, just helped me to feel spontaneous and allow what was ‘inside’ to come out. I’ve only really just started to explore this strategy for inspiration, and it’s very surprising….nothing seems hidden….everyone can see me…it’s a little wierd, but a great feeling also.

For so many reasons, the real me doesn’t get a chance…..to come out in public view….i’m so nervous all the time, and anxiety gets the better of me…but for me, in this way of creating art and characters, I feel I am able to ‘speak out’ and ‘show myself’.... I hope that’s not too narcissistic….. but i’ve always had to understand me, in order to understand others…. so it’s the first step in aligning myself with how others feel in so many ways :) hopefully, it’s not a completely selfish process…..that’s what I’m telling myself anyway :) xx

She looks so funny with her googles, and she has a squat, sturdy little body. For me, “perfect” proportions or faces are not important: it’s what they express that is important. I love the intensity of the colours and the sea creatures. :)

  • Karin Taylorcommunity helper replied

lol, she does look so funny Josette, such a strange little figure…...quite squat….i had to fit her on the page…this is probably how she got a little scrunched!! lol
I’m glad you like her and the dolphins and shells, etc….. really appreciate your comments so much :) xxx
