Wahine is a pencil drawing which I’ve coloured in digitally.

I used the actual image for the background by liquifying it, stretching it and adding in some blue hues….

His comment is “Her work is what I would call ‘authentic’. By this I mean that her work has an Asian style together with a – may I say ‘cutesy’ feel to it. The work has elements of deail, fun, asian culture – which all come together in a great portfolio of work. My single nomination which is incredibly difficult is Wahine.

I chose this particular piece ocs of the great detail in the eyes of the work. It reminds me of anime in Japan. The bigger the eyes, the more detail within it – just fantastic.”

    Yes – I love it! I really like the drawing in it’s original form, but for commercial/sellable reasons colour is better and I think you have great talent when it comes to executing that side of things as much as you do with the traditional methods.

    Hey thanx very much amanda, it’s good to hear from you, and i’m glad you like this one…..i almost didn’t put the richer colours into it…it was mainly greens….but i think enriching it with more was worthwhile, i hope so :)

    I would like to, but i don’t think I could get the same effect because the paper i used isn’t strong enough, it’s from my Visual Art Diary and in an A2 book of sketches….but what is happening, is that colouring digitally is opening my mind to new possibilities…so that when i do paint, i think i’ll have some new ideas and new directions :)

    Aw, now – you are just getting tooooooooo good at these eyes that you design.
    Mesmerising yet again, the perfect combination of colours in the eyes, the stripes above
    her head are perfection, you just cant do that bit any better. Love the ‘texture’ of her hair
    and the ‘feeling’ that one is looking at ‘real skin’ when you look at the face – dont know how you are doing it – but just keep doing it :o)
