Happiness Always


I used candlewax, few different sized black marker pens, retractable pencils, charcoal white and black, ink and pastels on a small piece of timber to create “Happiness Always”......and that’s what I wish for everyone…. happiness always

it could be for a newborn baby, just cheer someone who’s a little sad, or for a birthday ~ wishing someone happiness always is just a nice thing to do any time of the year :)

    she sure is…very shy….she’s sorta shuffling her feet in the water, in another little dreamland….oh…i just used it like a pencil…i got some sharp bit and drew on her swimming costume, so their would be a pattern left behind after i applied the ink :) ...remember we were talking about drawing on timber a while back? i’ve always wanted to give that a go :) i might do some more, it was fun xx

    This is an instant favourite for me…
    Incredible textures Karin…I do similar work, though not with figures, in my second career as a decorative painter, and I find this combination of media you used really attractive…very clever Karin…I love her stance with the ripples of water swirling around her, and the sanding away to achieve the clouds…she, as all your characters are, very appealing…

    thank you so much for your lovely comments Janis, the colours reminded me of you, although i didn’t set out with a particular palette in mind…it was a lot of fun, with very little planning or forethought and I hope that ones i do in future will be better….now i am getting the feel for what it’s like to work on a different surface :)....
    the way i did the clouds was to let ink drip from one side to the other which left gaps…it was a fascinating experiment! :)

    Lovely work Karin. The textured background is brilliant. I’m always wondering what you’ll come up with next.

    When I first saw the image (not the words or your writing) I assumed it had been inspired by the Victorian bushfires…the little girl standing in a burnt out paddock but with the blue skies & birds returning…..I guess that shows where my head is at ATM.
