Next in line is CHUNKIE Pirate….who has just arrived, anchored the boat and set foot on this little enchanted uninhabited tropical island…
I don’t often do boys..but this one called for it….see his whiskas…sorry no wooden leg…but he does have an eye patch and a parrot…and you must be nice to him or he’ll make you walk the plank!!! CHUNKIE Pirate is made from plasticine/clay…...the boat is an origami brown paper boat I made from a template I found on the internet, and then I’ve coloured it in photoshop, applying stripes!!! The birds, palms, seastar and coloured stones are all taken from original paintings, one of the flags is made from plasticine and the other flag taken from a painting, other bits were created digitally, such as the sky…and the sand is a page from an ancient book i have in my bookcase at home…the pirate has a real earring made from pure silver and the anchor is black plasticine attached to the boat “The Seven Seas” with a silver ball chain…..he comes to you with open arms and hopes to brighten your day with his salty yarns from the high seas!!
Once the Chunkies are created and photographed, I usually dismantle them to be used in the creation of more chunkies, so I am recycling the plasticine. These Chunkies have been very therapeutic to create over the holidays, whilst taking a break from red bubble and having my family around. I have many more to come, and although I won’t be on RB as much, I hope to also be doing some serious painting this year…so i look forward 2009 with much anticipation …

Sayraphim
This is awesome! How do you do it? I know the pirate is a doll, but is the boat and ancor real as well? or is all the rest photoshop?
It;s incredible work, congrats on such an amazing series!
Karin Taylor
replied
so sorry I took so long to answer you Sayraphim, the pirate is created from clay and the boat is created with origami using brown paper…and later i’ve photoshopped in stripes over the top. the anchor is black clay…which i rolled flat and cut with a sharp cutting tool…the palm trees were cut out from a painting i did previously as were the seastar and seagulls….i think i photoshopped in the sand and water at the front over the top of a background taken from another painting (and the pebbles also taken from another painting) so it’s a mixture of paintings and clay modelling and photoshopping…thanx so much!
